Well we don&#8217;t but at least it sounds<br \/>\nimpressive doesn&#8217;t it. On top of it there is a spectacular road called<br \/>\nRoute des Cretes and it closes on windy days&#8230;<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4640\" style=\"width: 414px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4640\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alpinelegends.se\/blogg\/2011\/10\/high-cliffs-by-the-sea-les-calanques\/imgp3846\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4640\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4640\" src=\"https:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wordpress\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMGP3846-404x303.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4640\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Route des cretes<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Just opposite the bay of Cassis are the famous Calanques. A favorite<br \/>\nspringtime spot for frozen climbers as it is all nice and warm. The same goes for the late autumn. The word<br \/>\ncalanque is patoi, local dialect, for a windprotected inlet in the mountains.<br \/>\nA fjord in miniature.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4641\" style=\"width: 414px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4641\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alpinelegends.se\/blogg\/2011\/10\/high-cliffs-by-the-sea-les-calanques\/imgp3840\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4641\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4641\" src=\"https:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wordpress\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMGP3840-404x303.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4641\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Les Calanques in the distance<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I was in La Ciotat for the weekend and the local mountains were calling<br \/>\nmy name. I rented a bike and decided to take the trail up.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4642\" style=\"width: 414px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4642\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alpinelegends.se\/blogg\/2011\/10\/high-cliffs-by-the-sea-les-calanques\/imgp3824\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4642\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4642\" src=\"https:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wordpress\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMGP3824-404x303.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4642\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">the trail<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The special shaped cliff protecting La Ciotat is called Bec d&#8217;Aigle which means the eagle&#8217;s beak and it&#8217;s<br \/>\n82 meter high.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4647\" style=\"width: 414px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4647\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alpinelegends.se\/blogg\/2011\/10\/high-cliffs-by-the-sea-les-calanques\/imgp3825\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4647\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-4647\" src=\"https:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wordpress\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMGP3825-404x303.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-4647\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Le Bec d'Aigle The eagle's beak<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The view from the top of the trail was stunning<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-4648\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alpinelegends.se\/blogg\/2011\/10\/high-cliffs-by-the-sea-les-calanques\/imgp3829\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4648\" src=\"https:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wordpress\/uploads\/2011\/10\/IMGP3829-404x303.jpg\" alt=\"bike on the edge\" width=\"404\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The edge is a windy place though. 200 days a year the wind is 7 or more<br \/>\non the Beaufort scale.
