But the two side have a lot in common,<br \/>\nin same cases even more than with the surrounding lowlands.\u00a0As many<br \/>\nmountain ranges it attracts people with it&#8217;s beauty and multitude of<br \/>\npossibilities for adventures large or small. Hiking, biking, rafting,<br \/>\ncanyoning but also skiing off course at this time of year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_1017-e1389090462168.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8268\" alt=\"St Lary Ski\" src=\"https:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wordpress\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_1017-404x267.jpg\" width=\"404\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The top three skiresorts are St Lary Soulan, Le Grand Tourmalet and Baqueira.<br \/>\nThey all have\u00a0extensive ski areas with very good skiing in all directions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">St Lary Soulan is a very cute likable little town influenced heavily by the<br \/>\nSpanish. The village strongman in the 50s,\u00a0Vincent Mir, a son of spanish<br \/>\nimmigrants realize\u00a0that that tourism was the thing and build the first<br \/>\nski lifts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_11027-e1389095793808.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8270\" alt=\"St Lary Town\" src=\"https:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wordpress\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_11027-404x267.jpg\" width=\"404\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Charming little town with thermal bath, restaurants, bars and tempting shopping<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_11118-e1389095911561.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8271\" alt=\"St Lary Cheese\" src=\"https:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wordpress\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_11118-404x267.jpg\" width=\"404\" height=\"267\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Local cheese, ham from black pigs and more honey than you can eat.<\/p>\n<p>Le Grand Tourmalet is a huge area with a long season. The top attraction for all<br \/>\nis the Pic de Midi reaching the sky with futuristic skyline at nearly 3000 m.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_66646-e1389097772389.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8272\" alt=\"Pic de Midi\" src=\"https:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wordpress\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_66646-404x303.jpg\" width=\"404\" height=\"303\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A French Astronomical Research Center studying the aura of the the sun is partly<br \/>\nopen for visitors. There is also a museum, a restaurant and even possibilities to<br \/>\nstay over night and see the stars. The skiing is out of bounds but open for<br \/>\ndaring expert skiers. There are some extreme versions but paradoxical enough<br \/>\nthere is freeride bus taking you back to the bottom of the cable car. This is<br \/>\nprobably the best free ride site I have seen for a long time. Don&#8217;t tell anyone.<\/p>\n<p>Baquiera is the biggest ski resort in Spain and the favorite for many upmarket<br \/>\nSpaniards including the Royal Family. The runs are perfect and groomed twice!<br \/>\nevery night and the resort is managed by a very ambitious team of professionals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_66987-e1389100690701.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8274\" alt=\"Baqueira map\" src=\"https:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wordpress\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_66987-404x303.jpg\" width=\"404\" height=\"303\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The village\/resort is modern and difficult to describe as charming but there are<br \/>\nsome fabulous hotels in the newest part. The valley Val d&#8217;Aran is dotted with<br \/>\npicturesque villages where charming restaurants and bars are abundant.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_66947-e1389100638492.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-8273\" alt=\"Baqueira resto\" src=\"https:\/\/alpinelegends.se\/wordpress\/uploads\/2014\/01\/IMG_66947-404x303.jpg\" width=\"404\" height=\"303\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is the excellent restaurant of Borda Lobato in the oldest barn and building<br \/>\nof Baqueira.\u00a0There are more than one reason for you to go to the Pyrenees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wild and beautiful!
