Zermatt-Alagna
Last week we made a little tour from Zermatt to Alagna. We took the cable car up to
Klein Matterhorn in the morning and skied via Cervinia to St Jaques. It was minus 20
on the top of Klein and both Uffe and Carolina had frostbites on their nose after the
first short run down to Plateau Rosa. We therefore decided to have a coffee stop
already on the first restaurant on the Italian side. Of course with panini and nice Italian
coffee.
We took a chairlift just by Cime Biance and we all simultaneously forgot that we had
our touring backpacks on and not the usual slim off-pist pack. So half hanging out of
the chair without being able to close it we laughed all the way up. Then we headed
towards the Cime Bianche valley.
Here is Paul and Carolina at the top of Cime Bianche. It is a beautiful valley, but the
skiing was a bit challenging with windblown crust at the top.
In the end we got some nice turns in the woods before coming down to St Jaques.
The run ends just 80 meters from Henriks house so se stopped to say hi to Henrik and
sat on his balcony for a while. It was amazing how big the difference in temperature
was just one run from Klein Matterhorn with minus 20 we were sitting on Henriks
balcony drinking water in our underwears and probably +10.
We continued to Frachey and took the lift up to Campo Base for lunch. Hasse and
Karin also came by to say hi.
Salzicca was the recommendation so we all enjoyed a sausage roll with pommes frites.
Then Hasse guided us over via Stafel towards Alagna. We met up with Uffes friends
who rented an apartment there for two weeks.
The after ski was held in the wine bar and according to the boys we were served by
the best looking girl in Alagna ; ) Also the police came in for an after work.
The next morning we left Alagna to head back to Champoluc and Cervinia.
It was a cold nice morning and the pists were great.
The plan was to tour back to Cervinia, but with -27C on the top of Klein we thought
we better save that for the spring. There is always more to explore.
KEEP EXPLORING!
